Hunter Braithwaite works in art and culture.
As Senior Vice President of Cultural Counsel, he has spent a decade leading strategic communications campaigns for organizations like the Chicago Architecture Biennial, Hyundai Artlab, Ford Foundation, Prospect New Orleans, City of Miami Beach, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, South Arts, and United States Artists.
He received his MFA in fiction from New York University, and studied English literature and art history at the College of William and Mary. He has provided editorial assistance to authors Jonathan Safran Foer, Katie Kitamura, and Meghan O’Rourke, and produced Hari Kunzru’s Into the Zone podcast, which the New York Times named a Best of 2020.
His writing has appeared in Artforum, Art in America, Bomb, the Brooklyn Rail, and the Paris Review Daily. He was a contributing editor at Modern Painters and the founding editor of the Miami Rail, and ran Cultural Counsel’s publishing platform Affidavit.
Hunter serves on the Board of Directors of Storefront for Art and Architecture.
His watercolors have been exhibited at Embajada in San Juan, PR and Elizabeth Leach Gallery in Portland, OR. Cultured named them a highlight of Spring 2025.
